HMA's Health Assessment: A Free Annual Physical Examination
The first step to any wellness & prevention program is the establishment of your primary care physician. He/she is your designated “quarterback” to your health screenings and records. Have a good relationship with your primary care physician, as it will lead to maintaining awareness of your health status through annual physical exams, scheduled screenings for men and women, appropriate immunizations, and medication as necessary. People who have established relationships with their primary care physician have less need and worry to visit the emergency room.
What is a physical examination?
A physical exam is a thorough health screening performed by your primary care physician. Based on your age and sex, your primary care physician will order the clinically required lab, x-ray, and diagnostic tests prior to your appointment. There will be a discussion and review of your results.
Why does HMA offer a free physical examination?
HMA believes that creating a close link between you and your primary care physician is extremely beneficial to your health. During a physical examination, your provider can take the time to conduct a systematic examination of your health. Your primary care physician can provide you with preventive suggestions and offer you programs that can assist you to take action toward positive changes to your health.
Gaining awareness, taking action and making appropriate lifestyle changes is key to improving your health. Everyone wins! How long will it take me to complete the physical examination?
The HMA physical examination can be scheduled through your physician and will normally take about one hour.
How often do I complete a physical examination?
Your PPO benefit plan allows for annual physical exams. We encourage you to take advantage of this great benefit and schedule a physical examination once every year through your primary care physician.Is there a cost to complete the physical examination?
No. It is free. Your physical examination can be scheduled directly through your primary care physician.
Will the physical examination affect my insurance coverage?
No. The physical examination will not be used to guide insurance coverage decisions.
Will the physical examination affect my healthcare premiums?
No. Completing a health assessment will not affect your healthcare premiums. These types of routine exams are exactly where we wish to see health care be spent on.
Will the physical examination affect my share of healthcare costs?
Not now; however, in the future, completing your physical examination and taking action to reduce the risks identified may mean you would pay a lower share of your healthcare costs than employees who do not take a physical examination and follow up with action.
Is there an incentive for taking the physical examination?
You will get feedback regarding your health risks and how to take better care of your health, your most valuable asset.
Can any other members of my household take the physical examination?
Yes! We encourage dependents who are enrolled in our health plan to get an annual physical. HMA provides a physical examination to recipients ages 6 and older.
