Hawaii Government Agency Worksite Wellness Plan
The Hawaii Government Agency Worksite Wellness Plan describes strategies to create healthy work environments, programs, and policies in Hawaii government agencies. The Hawaii Government Agency Worksite Wellness Plan was developed by the Hawaii Government Agency Worksite Wellness Task Force, which includes stakeholders from State and County agencies, insurance providers, unions, and the Employer-Union Benefits Trust Fund. By working together, we have a great opportunity to create worksites that support healthy lifestyles and reduce the health and economic burdens of chronic illness for the government employees of Hawaii, representing the largest workforce in thestate. We look forward to the active involvement of stakeholders, policymakers, government agencies, and government employees to ensure theimplementation of systems, policy and environmental changes that will improvethe lives our government employees.

February 24, 2009 Meeting
On February 24, 2009, the Hawaii State Department of Health, Health Hawaii Initiative held a State Agency Worksite Wellness Meeting facilitated by Larry Chapman, a nationally recognized expert on employee health management programs. The meeting discussed the economic and health rationale for worksite wellness and began a dialogue around the development of specific worksite wellness programming and possible future policies for Hawaii’s public sector employees.
Participants from nearly every state agency, HGEA, HMSA, Kaiser, EUTF, AON, and the City and County of Honolulu attended the meeting. As a result much interest and momentum has been generated around the formation of a State Agency Worksite Wellness Task Force to develop and implement pilot recommendations to improve the health and wellness of state employees. During this current time of budget constraints and uncertainty and with increasing health costs, we need to develop initiatives that have the potential to lower health plan cost increases for the State.
